High school expectations that I've grown to hate
And they've always loomed in the shadows
At times when I felt like that it was too late
To pull myself up by my bootstraps
Because my life wasn't following the script
And all that I worked for came short
That I hadn't lived right; that my wings were clipped

I've been trying to look at it different
And I'll admit: the blame's on me too
For falling in line with the system
I was seventeen. What was I to do?
And maybe those people aren't all bad
I recognize how true this could be
But I don't really care about you now
